Destiny Matrix Compatibility Chart: How to Calculate and Read a Couple Matrix
How to calculate a Destiny Matrix compatibility chart from two birth dates, a worked example, and how to read the center, karmic tail and love line.
A Destiny Matrix compatibility chart — also called a couple matrix or a partnership matrix — is a third chart built from the birth dates of two people. It does not describe either of them on their own, only the relationship itself: what connects you, what comes easily to you together and which themes may keep coming back. Below we show how to calculate it step by step on the example of one couple, how to read its points, and what this method cannot tell you.
TL;DR: First you calculate each person's Destiny Matrix. Then you add up the same point from both matrices — A to A, B to B and so on — and replace any sum above 22 with the sum of its digits. For 15 March 1990 and 7 November 1987 this gives A 22, B 14, C 8, D 17 and center 16. A compatibility chart does not give you a compatibility percentage: it describes the themes of a relationship, not whether two people “match”.
What is a Destiny Matrix compatibility chart?
A compatibility chart uses the same diagram as the Destiny Matrix of a single person: an octagon with the 22 tarot arcana at its points. The difference is where the numbers come from. In a personal matrix they come from one date of birth; in a couple matrix, from two matrices added together point by point. That is why the couple is often called the “third matrix”: a separate picture that is neither you nor the other person.
Destiny Matrix, Matrix of Destiny and Fate Matrix are different names for the same system by Natalia Ladini, while “compatibility chart”, “couple matrix” and “partnership matrix” are names for its two-person version. The method works for any two people — partners, spouses, friends, siblings or business partners.
How to calculate Destiny Matrix compatibility step by step
All you need are the birth dates of both people. You do not need the time or place of birth, and names change none of the numbers. The same rule applies as in a personal matrix: replace every number above 22 with the sum of its digits, and 22 stays 22.
- Calculate each person's matrix. The day, month and year of birth give the main points A, B, C, D and the center E, and the rest of the chart grows out of them. We show how each point is calculated in our article on how to calculate the Destiny Matrix.
- Add the same point from both matrices and reduce the sum. The couple's A is the first person's A plus the second person's A, the couple's B is the sum of both B points — and so on for every point of the chart, including the ancestral square and the money and love line. Replace a sum above 22 with the sum of its digits: 26 gives 8, and 37 gives 10.
- Read the couple's tail, lines and purposes. The couple's karmic tail is points D1, D2 and D of the couple chart. You calculate the purposes and the chakra energy from the couple's points, with the same formulas as in a personal matrix.
Watch out for one thing that often trips people up when they calculate by hand. In a personal matrix the center is the sum of points A, B, C and D. In a couple matrix the center is the sum of the two centers, not the sum of the couple's points. That is how this method works: every point of the couple is calculated separately, from the same points of both people. The order of the people does not matter — 15 plus 7 is the same as 7 plus 15.
Worked example: a couple born on 15 March 1990 and 7 November 1987
The first person was born on 15 March 1990 — the same date we use for the personal matrix in our other guides. The second was born on 7 November 1987. Here are the main points, the karmic tail and the money and love line of both people and of the couple:
| Point | 15 March 1990 | 7 November 1987 | Sum | Couple |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | 15 | 7 | 22 | 22 — The Fool |
| B | 3 | 11 | 14 | 14 — Temperance |
| C | 19 | 7 | 26 | 8 — Justice |
| D | 10 | 7 | 17 | 17 — The Star |
| E — center | 11 | 5 | 16 | 16 — The Tower |
| Karmic tail D1–D2–D | 21–4–10 | 12–19–7 | 33–23–17 | 6–5–17 |
| Money and love | 9 and 9 | 18 and 18 | 27 and 27 | 9 and 9 — The Hermit |

The couple's center is 11 plus 5, which is 16. If you added up the couple's points A, B, C and D instead, you would get 61, and after adding its digits, 7 — exactly the mistake we warned about above. The couple's points also give its purposes: personal 7, social 5, spiritual 12 and planetary 17.

Destiny Matrix compatibility calculator: what the result shows
Several dozen sums for two people leave plenty of room for mistakes. The Destiny Matrix compatibility calculator works out the whole chart in a few seconds. The result shows:
- the couple chart — you can click any point to see its card;
- the calculation for every point — both people's numbers, their sum and the arcanum;
- the karmic tail, the money and love line, the purposes and the chakra energy of the couple — the chakra energy is the system's symbolism, not a health assessment;
- both personal matrices the couple is built from.
You can enter two to four people. With three or four, the calculator shows a separate matrix for each pair, because the method describes the relationship between two people, not a whole group. The result has no age scale: the scale counts the years from one person's birth, and a couple has no shared date of birth.
Calculate your Destiny Matrix compatibility
How to read a Destiny Matrix compatibility chart
You read a couple matrix the same way as a personal matrix — the arcanum tells you what kind of energy it is, and its place on the chart tells you which area it concerns — except that the description is about the relationship, not about character. The calculator labels the points with the same names as in a personal matrix. Here is how to understand them for a couple.
The couple's center (E)
The center tells you what connects you and what you return to when you feel good together — some descriptions call it the couple's “comfort zone”. This is the number people usually mean when they search for “destiny matrix compatibility 15” or “compatibility center 17”. In the example it is 16, The Tower. That does not mean a break-up: The Tower in the center describes a couple that grows through turning points and honest conversations. In its shadow form, it means putting off difficult topics until they all blow up at once.
Points A, B, C and D of the couple
- Personality (A) — how you act together and how others see you: the couple's calling card. In the example it is The Fool (22): lightness, spontaneity and a wish to try new things.
- Talents (B) — what comes easily to you together. Temperance (14) is a talent for calming disputes and finding the middle ground.
- Material task (C) — shared everyday matters: home, money, splitting the chores. Justice (8) suggests clear rules and a fair split.
- Karmic task (D) — the lesson the relationship brings to both of you: a theme that may keep coming back until you deal with it consciously. The Star (17) is the lesson of supporting each other's dreams instead of limiting them.
The couple's karmic tail
The tail is the three numbers of the lower ray of the couple chart, read from the center outwards: D1, D2 and D. In the example they are 6–5–17, that is The Lovers, The Hierophant and The Star. The system links the tail with patterns that may repeat in the relationship — here, for example, putting off joint decisions and looking over your shoulder at what your families expect. It is a prompt for a conversation, not a verdict.
You read a couple's tail through its three arcana, not from a list of ready-made tails. A personal matrix has only 26 possible tails — we describe them in our article on the karmic tail — but these 26 tails produce as many as 97 different couple tails, and most of them do not occur in any single person.
The couple's love line and money line
On the chart the line runs through the lower right part, and its ends are marked with symbols: a heart at the love point and a dollar sign at the money point. The arcanum at the heart — in many descriptions called the “arcanum under the heart” — tells you what helps you feel close. The arcanum at the dollar sign suggests which way of handling shared money may suit you. In the example both ends are The Hermit (9): calm, well-considered decisions and a need for time just for the two of you, while the middle of the line, The Hanged Man (12), links the two themes. This is the system's symbolism, not a financial forecast.
How to read one person's money line, and what each arcanum means on the money point, is covered in destiny matrix money line and career.
The couple's purposes
The personal purpose speaks of what the relationship gives you both, the social purpose of the couple's place among family and close friends, and the spiritual and planetary purposes of a broader sense of meaning. In the example they are, in turn, The Chariot (7), The Hierophant (5), The Hanged Man (12) and The Star (17). The Star repeats in the karmic task and in the planetary purpose, and the system reads such a repetition as a particularly clear theme.
The couple matrix and both personal matrices
It is worth comparing the couple's result with both personal matrices. If the same number stands in the couple's center and in one person's matrix, that person may bring this theme into the relationship especially strongly. An arcanum that appears only in the couple describes something that arises only between the two of you.
We describe the meaning of every number from 3 to 22 in the couple's center and under the heart in our article on Destiny Matrix compatibility numbers.
Why do compatibility calculators show different numbers?
If you compare a few websites, the same couple may get different results. There are two common reasons:
- A different reduction rule. Some calculators subtract 22 instead of adding the digits, so 26 turns into 4 rather than 8. Others work with arcana from 0 to 21 or write arcanum 22 as 0, which changes every sum that includes it.
- A different way of calculating the center and the tail. Some calculators add only points A, B and C of both people, and then calculate the center, point D and the tail anew from these sums — as in a personal matrix. For our example this would give a different center and a different tail from the ones you get by adding the same points of both people.
Numato adds the same points of both matrices and reduces the sum by adding its digits, just as in the personal matrix, which we have checked against the calculator of the method author's school. To see why results differ in classic numerology, read why numerology calculators give different results.
What a compatibility chart cannot tell you
A couple matrix does not tell you whether you should be together, and it does not give a compatibility percentage — this method simply has no such number. It does not predict a break-up, a wedding or infidelity, and it will not tell you when you will meet someone. It describes the themes of a relationship in the language of the arcana, and every arcanum has a light side and a shadow side, so the same matrix can describe a couple that works well together and a couple in crisis.
It is most useful as a starting point for a conversation: what in the description fits, what does not, and why. Do not make important decisions about your relationship based on the matrix. If there is violence, control or strong fear in a relationship, seek help from a specialist, not from numbers.
Destiny Matrix compatibility vs relationship numerology: two methods
A couple matrix and relationship numerology answer similar questions, but they are two different systems. The matrix uses the 22 arcana and birth dates only. Relationship analysis belongs to Pythagorean numerology: it compares the numbers of both people, such as the Life Path or the Soul Urge Number, and also takes first names and surnames into account. You will find both methods in the Numato calculator, in the “Relationships” category.
Do not try to pick the “true” one. The matrix gives a picture of the relationship as a whole, while numerology compares two people trait by trait. If you want a full, descriptive account of your relationship, the Relationship analysis PDF goes through both people's numbers and their compatibility chapter by chapter.
Sources and method
- Method: every point of the couple matrix — the chart points, the ancestral square and the money and love line — is the sum of the same point in both people's matrices, reduced to an arcanum. We calculate the karmic tail, the purposes and the chakra energy from the couple's points with the formulas of the personal matrix.
- Reduction rule: a number above 22 becomes the sum of its digits, and 22 stays unchanged — the same as in the personal matrix, which matches the calculator of the school of Natalia Ladini, the author of the Destiny Matrix.
- Agreement: on 20 October 2026 we compared Numato's results with an independent implementation of the method on 210 pairs of dates within 1900–2100, including 29 February, days 22–31 and pairs with the same date — all 13,860 numbers matched, and swapping the order of the people always gave the same result.
- Our own data: the numbers in the example and the facts about couple tails are checked by an automated test on all dates from 1 January 1900 to 31 December 2100.
- What we do not calculate: a “group matrix” of three or four people, a compatibility percentage or an age scale for a couple.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Destiny Matrix compatibility calculator free?
Yes. The Numato couple matrix calculator is free and does not require an account: you enter the birth dates and immediately see the couple chart with the calculation for every point. The full result is free for a few people; once you go over that limit, part of the result appears after you create a free account or with a pass. Only the descriptive PDF reports are paid — the calculator itself and this guide are free.
Do we need our birth times to calculate Destiny Matrix compatibility?
No. The birth dates of both people are enough: the day, month and year. The time and place of birth are not needed, and first names and surnames change none of the numbers — in the Numato calculator they can only label the result. Couples with the same two birth dates therefore have an identical matrix, and the differences between them come from how these people live and how they talk to each other.
Can I use Destiny Matrix compatibility for friendship or work?
Yes. The method describes the relationship between any two people, so it works for partners, spouses, friends, siblings, a parent and an adult child, or business partners. The calculation is always the same; only the context of the reading changes: in a friendship the material task speaks of shared practical matters, and in a business, of dividing work and money. The Numato calculator takes two to four people and shows the matrix of every pair.
Does the order of partners change the couple matrix?
No. Each point of the couple is the sum of the same point of both people, and a sum does not depend on order: 15 plus 7 gives the same as 7 plus 15. So it does not matter whom you enter as the first person. We checked this on 210 pairs of dates — swapping the order always gave an identical chart, karmic tail, lines and purposes.
Does a compatibility chart show the years of a relationship?
No. In a personal matrix the years are shown by the age scale around the edge of the octagon, but it counts age from that person's birth. A couple has no shared date of birth and no shared age, so the couple chart has no age scale and no “now” point. Calculators that show a “couple forecast” based on the average age of both people use an add-on from outside this method. You can see one person's life periods in their personal matrix.
Is a partnership matrix the same as a Destiny Matrix compatibility chart?
Yes, these are names for the same thing. Destiny Matrix, Matrix of Destiny and Fate Matrix are English names for one system by Natalia Ladini, and “compatibility chart”, “couple matrix” and “partnership matrix” all mean the same two-person matrix. Differences between websites come from the reduction rule and the way the center is calculated, not from the name. Numato reduces a number above 22 to the sum of its digits, as the author's school does, and calculates the couple's center as the sum of both centers.
