Destiny Matrix: What It Is and How to Calculate It
The Destiny Matrix step by step: 22 arcana from your birth date, the formulas for points A–E, a worked example and a free calculator.
The Destiny Matrix is a modern system created by Natalia Ladini that takes nothing but your date of birth and lays out the 22 Major Arcana of the tarot on an octagon-shaped chart. Every point of the chart is one arcanum, and its position tells you which area of life it speaks to: your personality, your talents, work and money, relationships, or the themes that, according to the system, keep coming back from the past. Below we show exactly how to calculate it, step by step on a single date, and what this method is not.
TL;DR: You calculate the Destiny Matrix from the day, month and year of your birth. Any number above 22 is replaced by the sum of its digits, because every point of the matrix is one of the 22 arcana. The three numbers of the date give five main points, and the rest of the chart grows out of them — for 15 March 1990 that is A 15, B 3, C 19, D 10 and center 11. It is a separate system, not Pythagorean numerology.
What is the Destiny Matrix?
The Destiny Matrix is an authored method attributed to Natalia Ladini and developed since the first decade of the 21st century. It combines simple arithmetic on your birth date with the symbolism of the 22 Major Arcana of the tarot: instead of a single number, you get several dozen points arranged on an octagon. You may also see it called the Matrix of Destiny or the Fate Matrix — different translations of the same name, not different methods.
The octagon is made of two overlapping squares. The upright square, with points A, B, C and D, describes you: your personality, your talents and two main tasks, a material one and a karmic one. The square turned by 45 degrees is the ancestral square, the two family lines: your father's and your mother's. The center E sits in the middle of both, and rays run out from it with further points, the karmic tail and the money and love line.
An arcanum here is not a prediction but a symbol of a certain kind of energy, with a light side and a shadow side. That is why the matrix works best as a tool for self-reflection: it points to themes worth looking at rather than handing down verdicts.
How to calculate the Destiny Matrix step by step
The matrix comes from your date of birth alone — you do not need the time or place of birth, and your name changes none of the numbers. One rule applies throughout: whenever a number is above 22, replace it with the sum of its digits until the result falls between 1 and 22. The number 22 stays 22. Here is the example for 15 March 1990:
- A, the day: 15, which is The Devil.
- B, the month: 3, which is The Empress.
- C, the year: the digits of 1990 add up to 19, which is The Sun.
- D, the sum of A, B and C: 15, 3 and 19 make 37, and because 37 is above 22 you add its digits: 3 and 7 make 10, which is Wheel of Fortune.
- E, the center, the sum of A, B, C and D: 15, 3, 19 and 10 make 47, and 4 and 7 make 11, which is Strength.
A day from the 23rd to the 31st is reduced straight away: if you were born on the 25th, point A is arcanum 7 (The Chariot), because the digits 2 and 5 make 7. The year always needs a digit sum, sometimes twice: the digits of 1999 make 28, and the digits of 28 make 10.
All the other points follow the same rule, always from two or more numbers you already have:
| Point | How it is calculated | For 15 March 1990 |
|---|---|---|
| A1, B1, C1, D1 | the sum of the main point and the center | 8, 14, 3, 21 |
| A2, B2, C2, D2 | the sum of the main point and its “1” point | 5, 17, 22, 4 |
| A3, B3 | the sum of A1 or B1 and the center | 19, 7 |
| Corners of the ancestral square | the sum of neighboring main points: A and B, B and C, C and D, A and D | 18, 22, 11, 7 |
| Karmic tail | D1, D2 and D, read from the center outwards | 21–4–10 |
| Money and love line | the middle from C1 and D1, then money from the middle and C1, love from the middle and D1 | 6, 9, 9 |
| Purposes | Personal from sky (B and D) and earth (A and C), Social from the father's and mother's lines, then Spiritual and Planetary | 20, 22, 6, 10 |

With several dozen sums it is easy to slip up. The Destiny Matrix calculator works out the whole chart in seconds, labels every point with the name of its arcanum and marks on the age scale where you are right now.
Why do other calculators show different numbers?
If you compare a few websites, you may see different results for the same date. The reduction rule is usually to blame. Some calculators subtract 22 instead of adding the digits, so 23 turns into 1 rather than 5, and 28 into 6 rather than 10. Others write arcanum 22 as 0, which changes every sum that includes it.
Numato calculates the same way as the calculator of the method's own school: a number above 22 becomes the sum of its digits, and 22 stays 22. On 15 October 2026 we checked 76 dates within 1900–2100 against the school's current calculator, comparing every returned point, the purposes, the chakra table and the entire age scale, with no differences. We do not offer the other variants as options, because they are different methods, not settings. To see why results differ in classic numerology, read why numerology calculators give different results.

What does the matrix chart show?
Every area of the chart has its own place and name. We describe the meanings in detail in our guide on how to read a Destiny Matrix; here is a short map:
- Main points — Personality (A), Talents (B), Material task (C), Karmic task (D) and Center (E): the foundation of the whole matrix.
- Ancestral square — the father's and mother's lines, what the system says is passed down in your family.
- Karmic tail — the three numbers of the lower ray, D1–D2–D, which the system links with recurring patterns.
- Money and love line — a symbolic picture of what may support your work, money and relationships.
- Purposes — personal, social, spiritual and planetary.
- Chakra energy — the seven chakras as the system's symbolism, not a diagnosis.
- Age scale — the edge of the octagon as a timeline from 0 to 80 years.
The numbers are only half of the reading. You will find the meaning of each of the 22 arcana, in its light and shadow form, in our article on the 22 arcana in the Destiny Matrix — for example, The Devil from point A of our date is covered in the section on arcanum 15.
What the Destiny Matrix is not
It is not Pythagorean numerology or the Hans Decoz method, even though all of them start from the date of birth. Numerology reduces to a digit from 1 to 9 and treats 11, 22 and 33 as master numbers; the matrix reduces to 22, and every number is an arcanum. Here 11 is Strength, 22 is The Fool and 13 is Death, not a karmic debt. The calculation settings in the Numato calculator, such as the Polish tradition or the role of the letter Y, apply to numerology only and do not change the matrix.
Do not confuse it with similarly named ideas either:
- Destiny Number — in Hans Decoz's school this is another name for the Expression Number calculated from your full name. It is a single Pythagorean number, not a chart of arcana.
- Psychomatrix, also called the Pythagorean square — a three-by-three grid of the digits in your birth date, a different system with different rules despite the similar name.
- Karma in Pythagorean numerology — there is no karmic tail there; a related theme is described by Karmic Lessons and Karmic Debts.
Where does the matrix come from, and how should you treat the result?
Natalia Ladini developed the method in the first decade of the 21st century. It is an authored, modern system: it has no ancient tradition behind it, and its source is the author's school. The arcana use the Marseille numbering, which is why 8 is Justice, 11 is Strength and 22 is The Fool, closing the cycle of 22 arcana.
Treat the result as a map of questions, not a prophecy. The Money and love line is not a financial forecast, and Chakra energy is not a diagnosis: for health and money, doctors and advisers make the call. You get the most out of it by comparing the descriptions with what is really happening in your life — what fits, what does not, and why.
Sources and method
- Primary sources: the calculator of Natalia Ladini's school and the author's book Матрица судьбы: Первоисточник (Eksmo, 2025; ISBN 978-5-04-209095-0). We use the school's calculator as the reference for our formulas.
- Author of the system: Natalia Ladini; the Destiny Matrix has been developed in her school since the first decade of the 21st century.
- Calculation rule: numbers above 22 are reduced by adding their digits, and 22 stays unchanged — exactly as the calculator of the author's school does.
- Agreement: on 15 October 2026 we compared Numato with the school's current calculator on 76 dates within 1900–2100, including 29 February, days 22–31 and years whose digits add up to more than 22 — all 76 matched. A separate set of 80 regression tests also covers four dates outside the school's form range; those four are excluded from this comparison.
- Our own data: across all 73,414 dates from 1 January 1900 to 31 December 2100 there are exactly 26 different karmic tails — the full list with the share of each is in our article on the karmic tail.
- What we do not calculate: couple compatibility matrices, child matrices, arcana for individual years and months, or the combinations of arcana that some schools call “programs”.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the date of birth enough for a Destiny Matrix?
Yes. The Destiny Matrix is calculated from the day, month and year of birth only, so you do not need the time or place of birth. Your first name and surname change none of the numbers; in the Numato calculator they can only label the result. Two people born on the same day therefore have an identical matrix, and the differences between them come from how each of them lives the same energies, from upbringing, choices and circumstances.
Is the Matrix of Destiny the same as the Destiny Matrix?
Yes, these are different English names for the same system by Natalia Ladini, and you may also come across “Fate Matrix”. Differences between websites do not come from the name but from the reduction rule: some calculators subtract 22 instead of adding the digits, or write arcanum 22 as 0. Numato follows the rule of the author's school: a number above 22 becomes the sum of its digits, and 22 stays unchanged.
Are 11 and 22 master numbers in the matrix?
No. Master numbers belong to Pythagorean numerology, while in the Destiny Matrix every number from 1 to 22 is the number of an arcanum. Here 11 means Strength, inner strength, and 22 means The Fool, freedom and a fresh start. For the same reason 13, 14, 16 and 19 are not karmic debts in the matrix but arcana: Death, Temperance, The Tower and The Sun. You read each of them through the arcanum's meaning and its place on the chart.
The meaning of 11 and 22 in Pythagorean numerology is covered in our articles on master number 11 and master number 22.
Does the Destiny Matrix change with age?
No, the chart is fixed because it comes from your date of birth. What changes is where you are on it: the edge of the octagon works as an age scale from 0 to 80 years, with corners every 10 years and points in between every 1.25 years. The Numato calculator marks the point that matches your current age, so if you open the result again in a few years, you will see a different arcanum there.
Is the Destiny Matrix fortune telling?
Not in the sense of predicting the future. The matrix describes, symbolically, themes and tendencies linked to your date of birth — talents, challenges, family patterns — and it does so in the language of the tarot's arcana, but it does not say what will happen. It is best used as a tool for self-reflection and a starting point for questions about yourself. The money line and the chakra energy are the system's symbolism, not financial or medical advice.
Does Numato calculate couple or child matrices?
No. The Numato calculator works out the personal Destiny Matrix of one person: the whole chart, the karmic tail, the money and love line, the purposes, the chakra energy and the age scale. Couple compatibility matrices, child matrices and arcana for individual years are separate methods used by some schools, and we do not offer them. You can check two people's compatibility in our relationship analysis, which uses Pythagorean numerology rather than arcana.
Read more about how we calculate compatibility in our article on relationship numerology.
