The eight corners of the octagon stand for successive decades: A is age 0, the top left corner 10, B 20, the top right corner 30, C 40, the bottom right corner 50, D 60 and the bottom left corner 70. Between each pair of corners there are seven intermediate points, one every 1.25 years. That makes 64 points and 80 years in total.

How to find your age and current period on the scale
Each point lasts from its own age to the age of the next point, which is 1.25 years. So the 36.25-year point starts a quarter of the way from your 36th birthday to your 37th, and it ends the day before the 37.5-year point starts. The scale ends at 80 years — the method doesn't say what comes next, so after age 80 the calculator doesn't mark any point.
